Melbourne and Merritt Island Closures

May 7, 2020

Dear Member,

Health First is committed to providing high quality and affordable healthcare to Brevard families using the latest in cutting-edge technology. As we announced last fall, we plan to open two state-of-the-art wellness and health villages – one on Merritt Island (which will include the relocation of Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital) and one in Melbourne (next to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center). Our new state-of-the-art wellness and health villages will feature a variety of wellness and health services focused on providing families with access to high-quality, affordable healthcare close to home. Services on these campuses will be community-focused to offer families what they want, when they want it. Health First is pleased to announce that we are ready to begin the construction process for our new Melbourne and Merritt Island Wellness Villages. To do so, we are discontinuing operations of the Pro-Health & Fitness Centers and other services at these two locations. Our commitment to wellness remains steadfast, and we will continue operations at Viera Pro-Health. However, for us to move forward with the construction of the Wellness Villages, we are making this difficult decision. If Pro-Health members wish to cancel their gym membership, they should email FitnessExperts@HF.org. All prepaid items will be refunded at the member’s request. Health First Health Plans members have the option to select a gym outside of Pro-Health, as long as it participates in the American Specialty Health (ASH) Fitness network. Health Plans members may change their selected gym once a month, should they desire. To get started, go to ActiveandFit.com and register online. Take your Active&Fit card or the enclosed flyer to your fitness center of choice to enroll. (Also, if you prefer to work out at home, you can enroll online and choose up to two home fitness kits.) If you prefer, you can call toll-free 1.888.797.7806 (TTY/TDD 711) from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST Monday through Friday to find a fitness center near you or to enroll in the Home Fitness program. We understand the inconvenience this decision might cause. However, as we expand the Wellness Villages, we will increase easy and convenient access to high-quality wellness and health care for all of Brevard. Sincerely,

Brian Connor

Why are you transitioning Pro-Health & Fitness in Melbourne and Merritt Island?
As we announced in fall 2019, Health First is committed to providing high quality and affordable healthcare to Brevard families using the latest in cutting-edge technology. We are excited to announce plans to open two state-of-the-art wellness and health villages – one on Merritt Island (which will include the relocation of Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital) and one in Melbourne (next to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center). These villages will feature a variety of wellness, health, and retail space, complementing acute-care services offered at each site. They will also offer walking trails and dedicated space for fitness classes and community events. To begin the next phase, we are discontinuing operations of the Pro-Health & Fitness Centers at these two locations.
When will it transition?
To ensure we are within our timeframe, we are going to close the facilities immediately.
What happens to Health First Health Plans members who use these locations?
Members may choose to work out at Pro-Health & Fitness in Viera. Health First Health Plans members have the option to select a gym outside of Pro-Health, as long as it participates in the American Specialty Health (ASH) Fitness network. Health Plans members may change their selected gym once a month, should they desire. To get started, go to ActiveandFit.com and register online. Take your Active&Fit card or flyer to your fitness center of choice to enroll.
What if a member paid in advance for a full year and wishes to discontinue their membership because of this?
If Pro-Health members wish to cancel their gym membership, they should email FitnessExperts@HF.org. All prepaid items will be refunded at the member’s request.
Is Health First getting out of the gym business altogether?
No. We believe that fitness is a crucial component of maintaining the wellness of our community. We are always looking for ways to improve our offerings and serve our customers in a way that best suits them. In fact, through our fitness network, we have 35 fitness center options. We are looking for ways to expand our fitness network and allow more access to the community.
Do Pro-Health members have other gym options? How do they utilize them?
Health First Health Plans members have the option to select a gym outside of Pro-Health, as long as it participates in the American Specialty Health (ASH) Fitness network. Health Plans members may change their selected gym once a month, should they desire. To get started, go to ActiveandFit.com and register online. Take your Active&Fit card or flyer to your fitness center of choice to enroll.
What about Pro-Health & Fitness-Viera?
Our three Wellness Villages will be in Merritt Island, Melbourne and Palm Bay. At this time, we do not have plans to impact the Viera Pro-Health location and members should continue to use this location to meet their wellness needs.
Did COVID-19 impact this decision to close these two locations?
Our original intention was to announce the closing of these two locations this summer so that construction could begin in the fall of 2020. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to accelerate our timeline.
